  6. Passwords are required in 3 or 4 places in the DIS environment:
  7.  
  8. 1.  Your Demon login account password at the Demon Network 
  9.     Operations Centre.
  10.  
  11. 2.  Your Demon login account password in the dialer file 
  12.     (~/dialer by default).
  13.  
  14. 3.  Passwords for FTP and Telnet access in ~/ftpusers.
  15.  
  16. 4.  Your Demon POP3 password (if you have a POP3 account).

  19. To change your account password at Demon, use the command
  20. 'telnet password.demon.co.uk'. After changing it, you will then
  21. need to edit the dialer file so that it contains the same new
  22. password before you next attempt to login.

  24. N.B. Your Demon account password is case-sensitive.

  27. !FTPUSER.TXT.

  32. Choice of Passwords
  33. -------------------
  34. The usual suggestions apply for the choice of suitable passwords;
  35. no ordinary words, no well-known personalities or nicknames etc. 
  36.  
  37. The use of a "first-character" password is recommended. That is,
  38. think of a simple sentence of 7 or 8 words, then take the first
  39. character of each word to create the password.
  40.  
  41. For example, if the sentence is "Our 2 cats are called Holly and
  42. Mulberry", then the password becomes "O2cacHaM".

  44. The sentence is very easy to remember (if you happen to have two 
  45. cats called Holly and Mulberry :-), you don't have to write the 
  46. password down, and it is virtually uncrackable.
